About STREETZ Community Interest Company
Streetz Community Interest Company (CIC) was established in 2021 during the global
COVID-19 pandemic, following the identification of a significant gap in statutory
services for young adults experiencing homelessness.
The organisation was founded by Kathryn Özmaya-Kemp and Yolande Berry, who had
previously worked together on two successful community campaigns in 2019 and
2020, collecting toiletries and female hygiene products for women experiencing
homelessness and financial hardship at Christmas. Through this work, they became
increasingly aware of the challenges faced by young adults who, through
no fault of their own, found themselves without a safe or secure place to live.
Recognising the need for additional practical and emotional support, Streetz was
established with a clear commitment to helping vulnerable young people transition
towards stability, independence and a brighter future.
Supporting Young People
Streetz currently supports Verve Place (Your Housing), a 40-bed social housing facility
for young adults. Through regular donations of essential toiletries and
personal care items, educational, employment and emotional well-being support.
Streetz also provides seasonal initiatives such as Christmas and Easter gifts, Streetz
works to ensure that every young person feels valued, supported and included.
For many young people entering supported accommodation, moving into a new home
can be an overwhelming experience. Some arrive with little more than the clothes they
are wearing. Streetz provides practical financial assistance to help young people access
the essential items they need to establish a safe and comfortable home.
To date, Streetz has helped approximately 10 young people settle into Verve Place and
has provided additional support to a further 8 young people as they have progressed
into independent living.
Our Approach
Streetz believes that every young person deserves the opportunity to feel safe,
supported and able to build a positive future. By providing practical assistance,
essential items, opportunities for education and employment, and ongoing
encouragement, Streetz helps young people take important steps towards
independence.
Support and referrals to Streetz are facilitated through the support staff at Verve
Place, ensuring that assistance reaches young people who need it most.
